Before you arrive at The Essex Inn for your Virginia weekend getaway or vacation, please review the following policies and necessary information.

All rates include breakfast and afternoon snack, are subject to state and local taxes, and may change at any time.

Adding a third person to a room is $35.00 extra. Well-behaved children over the age of 12 are welcome, however, each child is considered a person and none of our rooms will accommodate more than 3 people.

Advanced reservations are recommended. A deposit equivalent to one night's stay is required at the time of reservation. This will be applied to the last night of the actual stay. Shortened stays are subject to the standard cancellation policy. The deposit may be paid by Visa, MasterCard, or American Express within seven days of making your reservation. Spring, Summer, and Fall are particularly busy times; call us as soon as you know of your plans.

The Quarters suites require a two-night minimum at all times. However, check availability because Thursday-Friday and Saturday-Sunday rentals are common, leaving a single Friday or Saturday open.

Check-in is 3 PM - 9PM. Check-out is 11 AM. IF YOU WISH TO CHECK IN EARLIER OR LATER THAN THESE TIMES, PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH US WHEN MAKING YOUR RESERVATION.

We are a non-smoking property which includes outdoor areas.

Candles are prohibited.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

We have a seven-day (one week) cancellation policy. If you must cancel your reservation, please cancel at least 7 days prior to the first day of your reservation. Reservations cancelled within 7 days will be subject to a charge equal to the full reservation cost. We will do our best to resell any cancelled rooms and will refund for any resold rooms. Certain weekends and group reservations may be subject to extended cancellation periods. Cancellations made by email will not be considered unless you receive an email reply from the Inn. It is suggested that unless you hear from us by email after canceling, you confirm your cancellation by phone.

Pet Policy:

Pet staying in room ($15)

In order to accommodate your pet, we ask that you read the following policy:

***Pets are welcome to stay in 3 of our suites only: The Downstairs Suite, The Laundry Suite, and The Kitchen Suite. They are not permitted in the main house. (We have a pet cat that has access to the outdoors and limited access in the main house.)

***No more than two pets may stay in one suite at a time.

***We prefer small dogs (under 25 lbs.) and cats only. Larger dogs are accepted by our approval only - we reserve the right to turn away certain breeds.

***All pets must be house trained or litter box trained.

***Pets must be on leashes or kenneled when outside; you are, of course, responsible for doggie "doo-doo." Cats must bring their own litter box.

***We ask that your pet be current with his or her vaccinations and must also be on some sort of flea & tick control.

***We would prefer that your pet be kept kenneled when you are away from the room. If a pet persists in barking, yelping, or showing other auditory sounds while you are away from the room, we will contact you to return as soon as possible and will personally "sit" with the pet until you do. (We do charge an hourly rate of $10 to pet sit. Please do not allow your pet on the beds. Any excessive cleaning due to large amounts of shedding will incur additional charges of $10 per hour.

***Any damage caused by a pet will be added to your bill.

***After reading, please advise us in the "Notes" section of the reservation request stating that you have read and agree to the policy.
