The Essex Inn, located one block from the Rappahannock River in the Tappahannock Historic District, is the perfect spot for a small, intimate Virginia bed and breakfast wedding for up to 75 people.

Looking for a unique wedding or elopement destination in Virginia? The Inn has several features that make it a popular site for weddings. Our beautiful stairway descending into the central foyer is ideal for an impressive bridal march and the music room fireplace makes a beautiful altar. Our screened-in porch is the perfect stage for a DJ, and the unusual Box Elder tree has played a special role in several weddings. For an outdoor wedding, we have the staircase leading from the house down into the garden and courtyard patio.
Prefer a church wedding or having your wedding nearby? Historic St. John's Church is right across the street. Several other churches are within a five-minute drive. Our Inn would make the perfect location for your reception or your rehearsal dinner. And of course, our accommodations should be your first choice for your wedding night and the best choice for your wedding party and family.
Our facilities include the main floor of the house including the living room, the library, the dining room, the butler's pantry, and two porches. Our landscaped grounds include a brick courtyard that will accommodate a 20x60 tent and has been wired for power. Additionally, we have a covered pavilion that is perfect for food service or dining, also with electrical power.
For small indoor weddings/receptions, we can accommodate up to 75 persons in a standing room only setting. For these events, we require that you reserve all four guestrooms in the main house for a two-night minimum. The package rate for 2011 is $3,000, tax and gratuity additional. This includes two night's lodging for up to 8 people, breakfast each morning, and a facility fee for use of the main floor for one afternoon/evening event. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due at the time of reservation. Cancellations made within 60 days will be subject to the remaining full charge.
For larger outdoor weddings/receptions, we can accommodate up to 125 people for a standing room setting. For a seated setting, we can accommodate 64 people. For these events, we require that you reserve all four guestrooms in the main house and all four suites in the "Quarters" for a two-night minimum. The package rate for 2011 is $4,500, tax and gratuity additional.
