At our Virginia bed and breakfast inn, we take pride in providing our guests with a creative repertoire of interesting foods and taste combinations.

Our produce and eggs are purchased locally from a farm right here on the Rappahannock River. Whenever possible, we purchase organic products and, of course, the coffees and teas served are from fair-traded companies. Herbs are from our garden, jam and jellies homemade, and baked goods from our kitchen. Experimenting with new and varied recipes, not scrimping on ingredients, and presenting the meal in an eye-pleasing manor are the cornerstones of our Inn. We believe that most bed and breakfast guests appreciate something to eat that is different from the usual fare at home. Isn't that part of the B&B experience after all?

When you are a guest at The Essex Inn, you might be served Pecan & Praline Baked French Toast with Smithfield Link Sausage. Perhaps Three-Cheese Grits with Virginia Ham and Shrimp. Another favorite here is our Strawberry & Cream Cheese Cobbler served with thick sliced Cherrywood-smoked Bacon.
